"Less Sturdy" means crumple zones, means less chance of dying in serious car accident. Old cars were heavy and made mostly of solid metal, making them more "sturdy" but absolutely lethal for the occupants in any big collision.

For those unfamiliar with this marvelous sport, let me outline some of its finer points.

The event in question is the State of Origin 3-match series held annually.

The sport played is Rugby League, a fancy name for semi-organised brawling, the national pastime of many Australians.

Two teams of fighters are picked from their respective states. Qualities such as thickness of neck, protrusion of brow and nearness of eyes are highly valued.

The two teams are lined up facing one another. The whistle blows and a ball is kicked from one end to the other. A common misconception is to think that this ball in any way determines the outcome of the game. The ball is merely there to determine who will be the first to get to give the opposition a smack in the face.

Once the first punch flies, the ball is done away with and the real sport begins.

You will notice a few men moving around in white uniforms. These are not referees. They are Australian cheerleaders. Notice their perfect posture and grace, their mellifluous tootling upon whistles and their choreographed dance movements. Exquisite!

The fight continues for 90 minutes, at which point the two teams retire and the win is awarded to whichever team's fans have consumed more beer.

Truly, a sport of kings.

Yes. I feel for Reynolds. Not only did he get screwed over by his pit crew (again) but his misfortune was completely overshadowed by the Whincup and Davison smash so no one is even talking about what could have been for him.

It's a shame Lowndes didn't finish higher. Could have really closed things up.

I've been thinking about doing this for a while now but the obstacle I keep coming up against is the car - I am Australian, see. Were there many non-European teams in the race and do you know how they sourced their vehicles? If I'm going to spend a month and 16000kms in a tiny car I kind of want to do my due diligence when purchasing...
