A Harvard MBA's radical quest to erase his debt by StuGovGuyin personalfinance

[–]username_goes_where 28 points29 points ago

"Student loans are a strange animal," he reasoned. "Unlike a payment towards a car loan or a mortgage, a student loan payment doesn't go towards something that is benefitting me in a direct way."

The education that got him that $100k job isn't benefiting him directly?

I worked UGA's spring scrimmage and Mark was extremely kind and friendly with all the refs - not all coaches are.

There are a lot, but just look at RP and Huntsman to see what the inevitable will be. Loss in favor of more right-winged, more well-funded candidates.

Prediction: Because of these stances, you are not going to do well in the republican election.

(and this saddens me greatly).

Apple tries to screw the little guy. Little guy wins in court. by gotnatein apple

[–]username_goes_where 7 points8 points ago

Not only that, but he does it in a seemingly intelligent and fact-based manner, along with writing about the issue for a while now. WTF is Apple doing? Unbelievably loyal customers have allowed them to get to $500B - don't fuck us now.

I hope to follow more along the path of your brother. My goal in getting this highly technical degree wasn't necessarily to be able to do the heavy engineering day in and day out, but to be able to understand, lead, and work with the hardcore IEs, and being able to translate their work into a financial perspective that c-level executives understand (ROI, NPV, Capital investments, cost savings, etc).

Most IEs lack the managerial, presentation, and personal skills to be able to move up through an organization, while many managers don't understand how wtf the IEs do and how to effectively lead them. I want to be the middle ground. Obviously companies think this in an important thing to have, hence the large salary.

As you can tell, I've been thinking/planning this path for a while.

I also have a MBA, to go along with my newly acquired technical skills, which helped me in securing this position.

Also, GT is ranked #1 vs Purdue which is #15 - there's a reason for that imo. The IE school at GT is no joke and it has some very, very smart people in it (I'm not one of them, trust me). While there are always people like you describe in every IE program, I'd say it is less so at GT. We constantly emphasize real-world application.

Our saying (in response to the "Imaginary Engineers" comment we are hear) is "Imagine me as your boss." :p LOL

What type of job?

I don't start until July, but hours should be 40-50.
