You teach your children about this crutch of life,......

It's like telling your kids that although there's not a monster under their bed, there is one in the sky over their heads. Carlin, of course, says it best:

After reading the title, the first thing I thought of was that it was against her religion somehow. Possibly I spend too much time on r/atheism.

Scientists Design Metamaterial that expands when compressed by kirtokoon242in science

[–]unamenottaken -1 points0 points ago

Think about it. You could set a block of this stuff on ground level at a loading dock. Set a heavy box on it and it expands, lifting the box up to the level of the dock. Remove the box and it shrinks back down to ground level for the next load. No energy usage.

Unlikely.

EDIT: If the above is too subtle, I'm saying that this material cannot exist, or you'd have free energy, perpetual motion machines, etc.

Yes, the IQ of the higher level models of all brands is getting to the point where it's almost a commodity, like pork bellies. No big difference between them. I think we're at the point where it makes more sense to buy according to other characteristics of the camera. Like, as you say, lenses. Or weather proofing, etc.

Personally, I don't think I could ever give up the way Canon handles its "custom user settings". Regardless of the D800 having somewhat better IQ I'd never be willing to put up with their handicapped version of CUS (they call it memory banks or something). I suspect most photographers couldn't care less about this feature but for me it's 100% essential to me now. Totally spoiled.

....religious and idiological websites do not care enough to keep them clean....

Much as I disrespect religion, that's only one possibility of many. It wouldn't surprise me if it were true, but my point is that this article doesn't offer any evidence of that.

He's not quitting the church by IsleCookin atheism

[–]unamenottaken 2 points3 points ago

The author refers to a Freedom From Religion Foundation ad in the The Washington Post thusly:

Its headline commanded: “It’s Time to Quit the Catholic Church.”

Since the author doesn't understand the difference between a command and a statement, I'll help:

  • "Quit the Catholic Church." would be a command.

  • "It's time to quit the Catholic church." is a statement.

Of course, the author prefers to misrepresent the atheistic ad as an effort to somehow force atheism on the public.

Atheism "turning into political movement" by TheRealChelseaHoffin atheism

[–]unamenottaken 4 points5 points ago

My gut feel is that the OP is implying that atheism is beginning to carry a little more weight, politically. This actually seems to be correct (slightly), and I was personally astonished at Romney's recent remark at Liberty University. Not that we should be all giddy over it.

[–]unamenottaken 0 points1 point ago

.....that a-theism means no-religion or non-religious, not no-god.

I'm not sure where you got that idea, but theism simply describes a belief in at least one god, and does not address religion. Atheism, likewise, relates to not believing in a god and does not address religion. Bottom line, neither theism or atheism have religion in their definition, only god.
