I love 15 yo jackasses with overpriced camera equipment. Here's why by droelf1213in photography

[–]sambeano 4 points5 points ago

I just wanted to add: I've worked with many photographers over the years, and there are the ones who fiddle with their equipment pretending to know what they're doing and pinning the blame on the model when things don't go their way and they don't want to lose face in front of their clients, and I've worked with National Geographic photographers and photographers who've photographed the most powerful people in the world, and they still wanted to learn from each other and have fun with the process. It blew my mind that the ones that could have been justified in having an ego didn't, and the ones who thought they were such hot shit did.

MUA : What is your "makeup pet peeve" - something that other people do with makeup that bugs the heck out of you! by YEAHitsEMILYin MakeupAddiction

[–]sambeano 5 points6 points ago

I don't like it when people are too strict in their usage of makeup, and sadly, a lot of counter sales people are guilty of this, I guess because they've been trained to use and sell their products in a certain way. If I want, I can use bronzer as eyeshadow, or shimmery eyeshadow as highlighter,or lipstick as cream blush. Makeup is meant to be fun, not full of rules.

When a makeup artist does my eye makeup and it's not similar, I very gently point it out by explaining that the light in the room is a little off or uneven. This way, she doesn't feel bad and I don't either coz I'm not blaming her workmanship, just the circumstances.

Only a guess... But the model looks like Sasha PivovArova, and I know she is one of Steven Meisel's favorite subjects, and it looks like his style to my (inexpert) eye.

I'm not sure I can help you, but I'll try. It seems as though you are struggling to define yourself, put a label and say this is who I am. I can see the benefits of having a clear and definite delineation between different groups of people, but as you are experiencing yourself, sometimes those definitions become fluid, because we are human, and emotions, identities and thinking are not constrained by clearly defined borders. If you really want to find out what group you belong to, I suggest you read more on the subjects that you are querying, and use your intellect to decide what works for you.

I am post-op for septo & rhinoplasty and having a really hard time dealing with it. Is there a subreddit where people discuss complications, depression, recovery etc. from their surgery? by tphaoetin AskReddit

[–]sambeano 1 point2 points ago

Yeah... as with most things, it'll take time. It was a good two weeks till I started to feel normal again, but everyone's different.. You could try drinking those vitamin c fizzy tablets (I heard vit c promotes healing).

Sounds like your surgery was pretty recent. What you're experiencing right now is completely normal, and until the padding stuffing up your nose is taken out, it's gonna feel like shit, pretty much exactly what you described. The best thing to do right now is follow your doctor's instructions and try to relax and heal. I found liquids foods were easier to ingest than anything else, but still not comfortable... that pressure in your sinuses is not fun, but you'll get through it. As to how it will look, that's where patience really pays off. Your nose will likely look much better already once the bandages are off, but it's really in the 6-month to one-year period that the real results will show. During your recovery, it's normal to get depressed and regret the surgery, but try your best to keep distracted and focus instead on positive recovery. If you have any other questions, feel free to pm me (it's night- time here, so I'm off to bed now, but I promise I'll reply ASAP). Keep well!

What popular brands do you despise? by WormTicklein MakeupAddiction

[–]sambeano 0 points1 point ago

Bobbi Brown is the same with their makeup line. I went in there looking for concealer, they tried to sell me this 3 or 4 step process just for under eye concealer, which struck me as bizarre, from a makeup and time perspective. The person in there also got snarky when I told her I used one of their shimmer bricks as a light blush. But I like the brand generally.

I don't like Clinique, simply because of those stupid doctors' coats the sales people wear. It's like they're trying to dupe me into thinking they're more expert, or scientific, and therefore more valid.

Do any of these sting when you remove the mascara? I'm currently on the lookout for a new one, and kinda remember buying one once that turned my eyes red, although I can't remember which one it was. I don't live in the US so returning is not an option :(

[–]sambeano 0 points1 point ago

I think some people are scared of the repercussions of getting involved. I know one guy who stepped in to stop a physical argument between a man and woman, who ended up getting punched in the face, falling onto the ground, hitting his head, and losing consciousness. Never regained it.

My dyed blonde hair has orangey tones! Can purple kool aid fix it? Or anything else? by pretenditdidnthappenin beauty

[–]sambeano 2 points3 points ago

I believe John Frieda makes specially formulated shampoos to get rid of red or orange tones on blonde hair. Even though I'm not blonde, my colorist recommended it when I mentioned how the red undertones of my color keeps coming through.
