US tells Twitter to hand over WikiLeaks supporter's messages | Media | The Guardian by skribeivin ptkchiepsilonproject

the part that scares me the most is the very end: "Jacob Appelbaum, [...] was interrogated for three hours, had his phones confiscated [...] and searched his laptop." WTF?! Are we so scared of one person that we have resorted to the ways of the British during the Revolutionary War? I am bothered that America is flexing its muscle as hard as it is on this one. They must have something huge to hide. This makes me question my future. I will not play political games like this, bringing doubts to the country. We should be working harder at bettering our name. We live in a great country, so great I can write what I'm writing now, but we are certainly on a slippery slope if we keep this up. Long Live The Patriot Act! (sarcasm does not translate via reddit).

I am really caught in the middle on this one! On one hand it is disturbing to think that American, the country that is founded on freedom of speech, is doing their part, politically, to silence the WikiLeaks website. On the other hand, it's scary to think that their is an organization out there, handing over confidential information that could be detrimental to national security or perhaps even global security. Honestly, the last part of the article, dealing with the DNS providers was almost like reading chinese. I understand they are looking for a new home but the logistics of it all is confusing. With America playing big brother, it has a scary sense of fascism. Maybe the answer is let WikiLeaks do what they do and stay true to the American MO. This way, we won't become the next Nazi Germany. What scares me as well, on a local level, is the rumor that Valencia Community College is attempting to shut down social networking for clubs and organizations because they can't monitor the sites. If this is true, it's time to take on the institution and let them know we won't be pushed around, we will not have our civil liberties interrupted by their fascist regime! The worse part of all of this: my words will go wasted because no one reads or posts on reddit anymore. Thanks skribeiv for posting this link as it is pertinent to our discussions and important to the American people.

So can we, as an organization, sign a petition? You can help us by finding a specific case, posting it on reddit and we can get as many people as possible on board. What do you think?

How can you not love America?! We have the right to say anything we want, anywhere; anytime. Other countries are not so lucky. A women is being "re-educated" by her own government for posting a tweet that "satirically implored freedom-fighters" to take a stand against the Japanese. What this means to me: If I were to use reddit to ask for Obama's resignation, there would be a knock on my door by men in uniform asking me to go with them to an unnamed location, never to be heard from again. What a crazy concept! Instead, the people who came before us, used their own blood to defend my right to call Obama a traitor! You may not like it, Obama may not like it, but @%damn, if I want to call him any word in the known (or unknown) dictionary I can. And that, my friends, is what living in a free society gets you. How can we help this young woman you ask??? Try here to see if you can make a difference!. Good luck!

I actually witnessed people voting based on the name of a person and even worse, completely based on their party preference. I know voting for your party used to be the norm, but lately, I believe educated people vote based on the individual running regardless of their affiliation.

Working the polls was a bit scary. There were people there that had no idea what they were doing or who they were voting for. After they signed a waiver, we, as poll workers were allowed to assist them in the process, by no means was I swaying their opinion one way or another, but if I had no moral values, it would have been easy for me to push my own beliefs on these illiterate individuals who didn't even know how to fill in a bubble. Perhaps the politicians should spend more time teaching constituents how to vote then who they should vote for. Stuffing the mailboxes with propaganda proves to be inefficient and undermines the democratic process. This further proves the need for education in the great state of Florida. How can we help???

I will elaborate more later but outside of the realm of technology; overwhelming my mailbox with junk mail from all the politicians completely turned me off to the democratic process. I understand reaching the constituents but when my mail box is jammed with the same information every day it serves no purpose. Receiving emails actually gave me an opportunity to read what was being sent. It was more personal and less "advertised" and much easier to delete.

Civil liberty is under attack in the historic city of Savannah, Georgia and it's spreading like wildfire. by robertstioin ptkchiepsilonproject

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/29/us/29halloween.html?_r=1

Where is the separation of church and state?

"'Sunday is the Christian Sabbath,' Mr. Johnson said. “But also since celebrating Halloween normally takes place at night, and the Jewish Sabbath ends at sundown, we would not be disrespecting their Sabbath either. And Muslims celebrate their prayer on Friday. So if there were religious concerns, we have covered all of them!”'

This quote goes against the Constitution as does the decision to not allow children to trick or treat on Sunday.

Communism didn't work in Russia and Fascism failed in Germany, what makes the mayor of Savannah think it's going to work here!

I definitely like the idea of the BBQ with the Be A Doner people and 102 jamz. We need to come up w some activities as well. Today we had. Silly get the ping pong ball in the pumpkin and people played. What about a debate about the democratization of information about family values and how they have been affected by technology? Just a thought.

It gets better - Facebook's campaign against cyber-bullying by skribeivin ptkchiepsilonproject

I am both confused and proud of the person who posted this link. The original argument made about cyber bulling was that this was a high school initiative and that we, as Phi Theta Kappa members had a higher calling. This video proves that cyber bulling is also affecting adults. There has been a onslaught of suicides directly related to homosexuality and cyber bulling. Are they just being two sensitive and whining or is this a legit problem amongst the gay community?
