Has GPS changed the way you navigate?

Our airports are much too far appart for flight following to be practical. Most of Canada is rural and it's fairly easy to maintain seperation between VFR aircraft without the need for flight following. We do have terminal space above major international airports for IFR and VFR flying starting at about 2500', but further away from the big airports the bottom of the terminal space can be as high as 9000' or more.

A lot of people are calling for us to adopt a US style flight following, especially after a bad mid air collision last month, and I would like it myself. But controllers don't grow on trees and I guess they just don't want to get more.

I think one of the mail problems with that, at least in Canada, is Transport Canada dosn't require pilots to learn to use a GPS. Most flying schools might have one portable unit to bring along and show students shared between 5 or 6 aircraft. And none of the 2 seater or 4 seater planes have a GPS installed at any of the schools and clubs I know of. Since we don't have flight following either, at least not for low level VFR that means most people rely heavily on paper maps and the VOR here. I'm sure as Transport Canada modernizes its charts (we don't have electronic charts here, only paper) people will switch over but for now there is nothing wrong with doing things the old fashioned way.

I've had the benefit of training at an airport with almost no need for obstical clearance, and as such has fairly standard glide paths. Your CFI is just making sure you have the right slope for when you fly elsewhere and so you don't end up high on short final due to always flying over the obstical at your training airport. Neadless to say, great solo, I was much farther off the centerline on a much wider runway when I was starting my solo circuits haha

Some textbook obstacle clearance right there, no wonder it's a displaced threshold. I'd be taking a slightly steeper approach but then again I'm a worrier and I like to give myself LOTS of clearance:)

I would take fighter jets and other planes from the local military base, fly them up to altitude and then parachute out of them to safety while they plummeted to the ground like in GTA:SA or Just Cause 2...

From my understanding the instructor gets $25 from that for themselves, but the school also pays them a (meger)salary in order to keep everyone happy, something 99% of other schools dont do. Subsequently the instructors seem much more eager and willing to spend the extra time with their students, at least compared to all the other schools I visited first.

Basically those rates apply to all the schools in the lower mainland. Outside the core except on the island I'm sure it's much cheaper.

Sorry, my Canadian math messed that up... $2.00 a liter, so about $8.00 a gallon, and that's at one of the cheapest airports in the region.

BC, Canada. $150/hr wet for a 172 plus $50/hr for instructors. There are other cheaper places where you can get a 172 for $125 but they have a lot of planes in not so nice shape. These are all really well looked after.

Our avgas is also currently $2.00+ per gallon.

I have a pair of DC H10-13XL I got for a good price after my first solo. They are an amazing pair of headsets, and while they are expensive I really feel it's best to get something with ENC ANR now rather than later. Anyways, they are similar to the 13.4 and still feel great. I've flown all day in them and never had a problem. But it's all personal preference, if you have a huge head the DC might not work for you.

Do people really get propositioned this much for just random sex? I've only ever had girls show interest in a relationship that would naturally mature into sex. Dispite friends that seem to have random hookups it's never happened to me. Then again I guess that can be attributed to the fact that I've never really gone to parties or bars without a large group of friends or coworkers around to talk with anyways.

Does anyone remember a super creepy manga that someone posted about a year ago? It was about an earthquake in Japan revealing this cliff face with human silhouettes as tunnels carved into it. They fit specific people perfectly and everyone was compelled to enter their silhouette. Never to be seen from again. This reminds me of that...

I'm not anti-union, just against a union in my industry right now. A union has been trying to establish itself in my town for years now but never got anywhere because at a unioned studio I ( and everyone else at my level of experience ) would have to take a 30% paycut. The union wants to set wage minimums for experience but the numbers are way way too low for most workers. They also want to prevent us from working overtime, but while I don't want to work 60 hour weeks, I also don't mind getting paid some OT every couple of months. Last year I made 15% more than my PRE-tax income by working OT and that was rather nice. But who knows, I might be different if I was married with kids.

We are a city with no room to expand and with no one willing to give up the room they already have. Bordered by the ocean on one side, the mountains on another and the US on a third it's clear that the cost of living in THE ONLY FLAT LAND IN THE PROVINCE is going to get more and more expensive as the cities population grows. That being said I sure as hell wouldn't want to live anywhere else in the country and so do a lot of other people as well. That's where it comes from.

My cousin has had Crohn's disease most of her adult life. After having all of her colon removed she was freed from pain but 4 years later it started to return. It turns out she had a fistula that formed from her intestines into one of her fallopian tubes. The infection spread over that time and eventually led to massive pain in in her stomach and up to her back. This may not be relevant but I just figured I would share! Don't give up!

I don't like cheese. Maybe mixed in to other things it tastes ok but by itself I just don't like it. And yes that's all cheese, from grilled cheese sandwiches all the way up to brie on a cracker. It all just tastes like what it is, old milk, to me.
