There's also the issue of disruption caused by construction in some of these options. I did a story on this for Vancouver.openfile.ca last year, and all parties emphasized there would not be giant open pits all along Broadway for more than a year, as there was on Cambie and downtown Granville.

Collaring Ceremonies by CatHydrologistin BDSMcommunity
[–]ptupper 1 point2 points3 points 2 months ago*
Victor Turner, in his book "The Ritual Process", describes the underlying principles of rituals, particularly rituals of initiation, which is what a collaring is.
The three phases are:
-separation: the initiate is removed from their everyday life, particularly the signs associated with that mode of existence, such as clothing and so on. He or she enters a particular place at a particular time (anticipation and travel is important).
-liminality: the initiate is in a radically different social space, where symbolism is paramount, where things are radically different. This is where the person is removed from their previous social role but has not yet achieved their new role.
-integration: the initiate returns to regular life in their new social status.
So, it's not just "Here's your collar." There should be a period of instability and uncertainty before the collar is granted, at the end of the liminality period.

I would suggest temp agencies, but they look pretty slim offerings too.

Class and bdsm by scruffysubin BDSMcommunity
[–]ptupper 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago
Money isn't quite the same thing as class, but I can relate. Differences in money can be a sore point in many situations. In BDSM, not everybody can afford the fancy clothes and toys and admission to the big parties. I've been semi-employed for years, my fetish gear is from thrift and discount stores, and my toybag was mostly bought during periods when I had money.
Are you sure your friend's comment about buying a hotel wasn't just him fantasizing?

I've had mixed results from the Personnel Department: sometimes well-paying, fairly cushy jobs that last for months, sometimes low paying crap jobs that last only a day or two, sometimes months with nothing.
If you rack up enough hours, you do get medical and basic dental coverage.
Vancouver 'micro-lofts' billed as smallest in Canada by ptupperin vancouver

This is a travesty. I pay less than $850 (inc utilities, laundry in building) for a 1BR with view in Kitsilano. Granted, I've been there for more than 10 years. How is this supposed to help anybody?

Do any other subs feel this way? by thr0w4ay23842in BDSMcommunity
I'll add my $0.02:
You're up on a trapeze with no net. Your dom is not a dom at all, just an abuser; there is no trust between you.
Since he's probably not going to change, you have to. You have to develop a new instinct.
You know how when you sneeze or see a bright light, your eyes shut by reflex? You need that reflex to protect yourself. The same thing with your submission: you need a protective reflex which means you don't go all the way.
When you've developed that instinct, you'll be able to distinguish your fantasies of abject submission from what's possible and desirable in reality.
Best starting out bondage activities? by [deleted]in BDSMcommunity
I'm fond of mummification with saran wrap, which is cheap and molds to the body.
I also recommend investing in a pair of ambulance or EMT scissors for safety.

Cling wrap is good for bondage and mummification, especially if you can find the thicker kind.
A hairbrush with a handle is good for both friction/sensation play and impact play.
