Go to a doctor. It's probably a perfectly curable thing. I doubt surgery will be required.

Just witnessed a jaywalking-man get stuck by a car. Please be more safe when you cross streets. by _danadain toronto

Everyday I see some idiot pedestrians darting out in front of cars and just hoping for the best. It makes me rage so much. YOU WILL NOT WIN AGAINST A CAR.

Plus the fact that, if you get killed, sure that was your life to waste, but give a thought for the person whose life you just ruined by making theirs the car that killed you.

The number one rule for street traffic; cars, bikes, skateboarders, pedestrians: BE PREDICTABLE.

You have to incorporate incompatible behaviors with what you are currently doing. You know you're not going to suddenly start studying a lot in the same environment with the same distractions you've always had. You have to do something totally drastic.

First off - get good rest. Sleep the same pattern every night. Go to sleep at the same time and get up at the same time. Every night, regardless of if you need to be up or not.

Once you're up. Do something. Don't get up and amble over to your computer or check your phone or turn on the TV. Get up. Shower. Leave the house.

Get rid of every distraction. I have a feeling that your hobbies are actually huge time-sinks. Get rid of everything; your Ipod/ipad/phone/xbox/PC/Playstation/NintendoDS/DVDs/Comic books. Pack everything away. Store it somewhere far away. Give it to someone and tell them not to let you have it back. Any of it.

Get your ass to class. For fucks sake somebody paid for that class. Go to it. Then stay at school. Don't come home after class. Spend time everyday after class doing review and committing everything you learned to memory. Go over everything you should have learned in that class. Figure out what you missed. Incorporate your studying into your class schedule that between classes and studying you are AT SCHOOL and WORKING for 8-10 hours a day.

School is now your job. Get your ass there and work. No excuses.

I'm very sorry for your loss. Remember that there is no heaven, so it is in our minds that we must carry our lost loved ones. Cherish your memories and find ways to honour the person you have lost.

Be thankful that in this short life you had a true friend, and think of what s/he would want for your what remains of your life. You have to carry on; that is simply the way of things. Carry on in a way that shows the best of what we are.

You need to learn to put your trust in people who earn it, and not just people you want to.

Remember; people with nothing to hide, hide nothing.

Rachel Maddow: How America's Security-Industrial Complex Went Insane - If no one knows if our security-industrial complex is making us safer, why have we built it? Why are we still building it, at breakneck speed? by mic9aelin politics

[–]mawkish 1 point2 points ago

We'll the creepiest part is that the US has actually lost important pieces of their technical knowledge on how to maintain nuclear weapons. The engineering on how to make the same types of fuses that are used in 60s era ICBMs cannot be replicated. No one is able to recreate these fuses which, like anything, have been degrading over time.

There's also a material used in a lot of nuclear weapons called FOGBANK. But it's composition was so classified that no one currently working for the US military knows what's in it or how to make it. Thus making refurbishment of aging nukes a near impossibility.

You're welcome. I hope you'll like it. At the very least you'll learn some really unsettling things about the US nuclear weapons program. :)

That depends on your wherewithal. I got it as an audiobook. If you're strapped for cash, wait for paperback, or better yet get it from the library.

In the case, specifically about the secret CIA drone war; yes. More generally she illuminates how things have gotten progressively worse over time, through many different administrations. The US getting closer and closer over time to what she describes as "frictionless war."

It has been a totally non-partisan thing. It has been an evolution.

Recently got back in to dating and have not been enjoying it. Am I doing it wrong? by StrasseGeistin relationship_advice

[–]mawkish 1 point2 points ago

The lesson is to not make assumptions about people. If someone says they like photography, ask follow-up questions. Don't immediately jump to the conclusion that she means it the same way you would if you said it.

It's way less disappointing to find out stuff about people quickly through questioning than it is to have assumptions you made proven wrong. It's your own expectations that are causing your lack of enjoyment.
