Owls in the UK are like chickens in the States. We factory farm them and have them in burgers, eat their eggs, etc. It's unusual to have them as pets here, but in the same way that it's unusual to have chickens as pets - they're mainly seen as a food animal. There's an owl farm just down the road from me. 50000 of them in a shed, swivelling their heads around like billy-o.

Water resistant doesn't mean waterproof. For anything to qualify as waterproof in a trades description kind of way it has to be capable of protecting its contents after being submerged under a meter of water for ten minutes, or somesuch standard. That's why most rucksacks and the like say they are water resistant rather than waterproof, and this survival kit is at least as water resistant as they.

Whether this kit is especially water-resistant when compared to your standard altoids kit, though, then probably not.
