The Internet's response to the announcement of Heath Ledger playing the Joker........We were so wrong... by RobertF23in movies

I thought Cage was relatively interesting as the hero, more so than Travolta. I think the problem though, was that Sean Archer in and of himself wasn't a very interesting character. He only became interesting when everybody thought he was Castor Troy and he had to weigh his own morals against keeping up the facade, so Cage got him at the most interesting point of his character development.

Ultimately though, it was slow-motion shots of birds that hit the game-winning home run in that movie.

[NSFW] Sexiest Hula Hoop ever. by pornkidin videos

[–]glenomenon 7 points8 points ago

This is the most correct comment in the thread. To me, the notion that there is nothing sexy about it because the video lacks artistic integrity, a unique perspective, or any sort of originality, and because the girl doesn't really have any hula-hooping talent, is kind of silly. I wouldn't actually argue with any of those points, but at the end of the day, it's still an attractive woman shaking her ass and flashing some boob. That's got to inherently count for something on the sexiness spectrum.

~10 year pack a day smoker here. I can assure you I know exactly what I'm spending on the fuckers. It's not exactly that it's worth it to smoke, it's more that it's not worth it to go through the unmitigated hell of quitting. It sounds stupid, but if you've never been hopelessly addicted to something, it's hard to understand.

And every time you lose a hair, clip a fingernail, drop a deuce, sweat, cry, or just burn calories, you're losing atoms. And every time you eat or drink, you're taking on new atoms. Sort of makes me wonder if I still even have any of the individual atoms I had when I was born, and if so, how many?

They couldn't charge small businesses enough to make any substantial money, but for major national brands like Old Spice with huge advertising budgets and for whom the Facebook brand page has become an all-but indispensable part of their marketing efforts, they likely could. Those brands wouldn't be thrilled with having to suddenly start paying handsomely for those formerly free pages, but that doesn't mean they wouldn't do it.

It could be done with a sliding price scale based on how many followers the page has. Less than 1,000 followers could remain free, 1,000-5,000 is a very small fee, 5,000-10,000 becomes a little more, and so on until you get to the pages with hundreds of thousands or millions of followers and charge a substantial price for those. It would piss some people off, but I doubt most of those brands would be willing to just give up an active and engaged audience of millions.

Full on Highlander style immortality is impossible, sure. You can't make people bullet-proof or getting-hit-by-a-train-proof. But what theoretically could be possible is curing all terminal diseases and developing gene therapies that drastically slow down the aging process, thereby significantly raising the average life expectancy. It might be impossible to make people live for thousands of years, but it might not be impossible to make them live for hundreds.

I saw a TED talk once with a genetic researcher (I think) who was talking about the idea of "curing old age." He brought up the overpopulation issue as that seems to be the most common objection to this idea, and I think he made a pretty good point about it. To very roughly paraphrase he basically said that if such an option were available, it would then be up to humanity to decide whether they want to keep breeding and dying at the pace they do now, or whether they want to live much, much longer but breed less. His point was that we shouldn't make that decision for the future people who would benefit from it, we should let them decide that for themselves.

Here's the video for anybody interested. It's been several months since I've seen it and I didn't watch it again when I found the link, so sorry if anything I said about is wrong.

In order for the science to get there, the research has to be done. Research requires funding. And we've come full circle.

What is your "never again" brand, item, store, or restaurant ? by radbrad7in AskReddit

[–]glenomenon 0 points1 point ago

I envy you. I live in a landlocked state. I'm about 45 minutes outside of a major city, and in the city there are some great (and pricey) seafood restaurants, but around my neighborhood there's essentially nothing. So if I want to go out for seafood without driving 45 minutes or more each way fighting city traffic and paying an arm and a leg, Red Lobster is really my only option.

The worst part is that I've had what you have. I grew up right near the gulf coast in FL. When I think back to my FL days, I don't miss the sweltering heat and humidity, the ancient ones driving half the speed limit, or the sheer levels of homicidal lunacy common to the locals, but god do I miss the seafood.
