Cool! New team, I take it?

Aw :(. Funny story. I'm actually working with Penn State's driver who was in the car when it caught fire. He sits in a desk two rows away from me.

It's been a long week, Reddit. What are some small things that never fail to cheer you up? by chairmanxiaoin AskReddit

[–]chairmanxiao[S] 0 points1 point ago

I wish someone would do that with me...

I would kill for a bowl of mac and cheese with some tomato soup. I had a pickle and beer for dinner. 30% due to laziness, but still :p

Our team was also there. How'd you guys do? We took 1st in accel and 3rd in endurance for an overall 5th place finish. Go blue!

I've been building bike frames since I was 16. Not normal frames though. Here are some highlights. by Nolanoin bicycling

I'm very jealous of how good you are at welding. Awesome bikes. Recumbents aren't my cup of tea, but those are badass.

Just got a cpu. Hit 48mph in a descent, wearing nothing but swim trunks before wussing out. Will attempt again with gear. What are your bests? by h0me5killetin bicycling

[–]chairmanxiao 2 points3 points ago

I've hit about 60mph on a long descent, but that was probably a poor decision as I was running carbon wheels. Poor braking surface...

I'd totally buy a nice print of this if it were to ever become available.

'02 Mercedes C230 coupe shudders under high speed (70+mph) braking after swapping tires by chairmanxiaoin Cartalk

It's a nationwide chain, but yeah. I'll try retightening all the lugnuts and see if that fixes it. It doesn't seem to be happening much anymore for some reason.

Hm. I'll disassemble my rotor assemblies later today and check them with a dial indicator on a lathe later. Fingers crossed that's not the problem.

No need to read too far into it. I've just been so used to seeing animated gifs everywhere that I half expected this one to do something interesting. Twas a poor attempt at humor.

Love M119. My friend used to own a cottage up in Harbor Springs and we would spend all summer there riding all over the place.

+1 for microtex. I've used it on my commuter for about 2 years now and have yet to need to replace the tape. Just take some soap and water to it if it gets really gross.

This guy stole my bike in SF. Anyone know who this is? by stolenbikesfin pics

You've hit all the benefits pretty well. Another big thing is frame quality. A good frame has to be stiff in all the right places and compliant in certain places as well. I found it much easier to climb and accelerate after I upgraded to a carbon frame from an aluminum one, though part of that might have simply been the placebo effect.

With wheels, unless you're doing time trials or something, aerodynamics don't really matter all that much (IMHO; some people disagree). What I look for when I buy wheels is low weight. The less rolling mass you have, the less effort it takes to go fast.

You do have a good point about prices. Most people feel that even $500 is way too much to spend on a bike. But like you said, it's definitely one of the healthier things to spend your money on. I'm glad you're not one of those people who thinks people are retarded for spending so much money on a bike.

Creeped through my pictures? :p. I just got a full carbon saddle and haven't had a chance to do any long rides on it, but I've heard that it's much more comfortable than a "conventional" saddle because it flexes more. I'm skeptical, but we'll see. I'll probably do a century soon after I finish with finals.

I do own a commuter as well. I got it for $150 4 years ago and it's still going strong :D.
