Yeah that's kinda what I thought. Nice bike. Way beyond my budget and skill-to-looking-cool ratio I'm at right now.

This is the world’s largest diesel engine, the Wärtsilä-Sulzer RTA96-C. The thing measures 89 feet in width and weighs around 2,300 tons. It is also the world’s most powerful engine to run on diesel with 108,920 hp. [1100x681] by Mind_Virusin MachinePorn

I think the little truck pulling it deserves some goddamn recognition.

And I applaud your acceptance and understanding of such vehicles and technology. Right there with you.

Think about the long term: 1 moving part in the motor makes it almost indestructible. No oil changes, no exhaust, massive incentives for 0-emission vehicles, cheaper energy costs per running mile...

The benefits are there if you're willing to understand them.

The Model S will have a base price of 55,000 US dollars. I believe you'll find that's right in its segment (BMW 5-Series etc etc). Not sure where you got that idea.

A full electric charge is likely to cost you way less than half of the price of gas that will get you the same distance, plus there's so many free charging stations. Electric engines use 90% of their energy to move the car, compared to 20% average efficiency of combustion engines.

Servicing is also way easier given there's so few moving parts. Trust me man...we're onto something here.

I'm not an idiot, if i need to drive more than the range needed and don't have the time to wait to charge I'm clearly not going to use these cars. But, ask yourself simply how many times a year the average person commutes over 320 miles in a day, and how much cheaper energy costs are with an electric car.

Clearly it's not a car that will work for everyone, that's kind of obvious, but the benefits are ridiculously huge.

I work at one of their Stores as an Intern. Apart from the sound, petrol engines seem so useless to me now.

Snowboard helmets for the city? by amedeo114in bicycling

Good point. Hadn't thought of checking that. "ASTM 2040, and CE 1077B Certified in EU" so from what I found out, they're pretty basic standards.

I can hardly afford food right now and I'm over a month from my next payroll. But i like to go fast, and there's too much start-stop traffic around here. I've already laughed off one too many close calls. So I figure I'll have a friend bring me my snowboard helmet when he comes to visit me in a couple of days.

My friend's work-visa was rejected due to his employers fault. Help? by amedeo114in france

Thanks man. This actually might turn out for the best as one of the studios interested in him is actually after his specific knowledge of various softwares which aren't well known in Europe, so hopefully they can accelerate the hiring process. They asked him to start in December due to his current job but seeing as that's no longer an issue maybe they can work something out. Or at least get him to sign now for a December start and in the meantime he can chill for 2 months on unemployment...

We'll keep you posted.

We were going to visit the préfecture yesterday, but my buddy wanted to talk to his boss first.

Today he was told it would be his last day at work. He has an appointment at the US embassy on monday. We'll look into visiting the préfecture as well, as they are the ones who apparently can extend his tourist visa.

We've taken most of these things into account. Your idea of food & board is quite a good one which we might try and bring up, and the possibility of registering a company has also come up.

It really is quite unbelievable that they screwed it up so royally, which is really why we're trying to figure out what rights he has, given it's his employer that has put him into this shitty situation which could be rather damaging to his professional career. However, I can assure you, we have both studied, and had an immigration-lawyer-friend-of-his read over the visa-rejection letter, and it's very clear that it's down to the employer not running the proper hiring process.

The other crappy thing is, the employer was introduced to my buddy by a common friend of theiry, and basically hired him when he came out of his old job, expressly so he would be able to stay in France and sort out the visa. So he kind of shat all over his personal and professional reputation with this.

Anyway, we're both 25 with not much legal experience so we're just trying to find some good hearted people who can help. Apparently we're thinking of all the right things, so we'll throw it all down for the meeting at the embassy on Monday.

Yeah that's one of the possibilities we're looking into, but we can't shake this feeling that it's kind of sneaky and suspicious if anyone ever decides to poke their nose into it.

Well the truth is he's a highly skilled architect who was not only invited to come to France by his previous employer, but who has a multitude of very high-caliber studios trying to hire him.

At this moment, his employer is trying to keep him in the firm, and he and I are trying to understand whether he is entitled to any sort of compensation due to the employer putting him out of work for having hired him without following proper procedures. He has made an appointment at the U.S. embassy for Monday to see whether they can help, as they should have some interest in protecting their citizen's rights here.

At the same time, we are looking into whether he can go back onto a tourist visa, and stick around for a few more months and sort out a job with one of these other companies who's interested in him. Clearly, we'll make sure they have followed the proper procedures before he signs anything this time around.

The big issue for him right now is cash, and if he is put out of work because of these people's neglect of the rules, that's really really shitty.

Worst case scenario, he goes back to the States, sorts out a new job in Paris from there, and then comes back a few weeks later. Again though...cash...
