How fast or how high would an object need to go for the Coriolis Effect to not be prevalent? by turbodreamer08in askscience

[–]Sycosys 2 points3 points ago

It's not curving because of the earths rotation or Coriolis.

The rocket is curving over in order to pick up the lateral velocity required to achieve orbit.

Why is sunburnt skin warm for days afterward? by misterraiderin askscience

[–]Sycosys 1 point2 points ago

no, blood rushing to an area to assist in healing efforts brings internal heat to the skin surface much more than it does when skin is not sunburned

What unethical or immoral things have you done to get ahead? by ryansandersin AskReddit

[–]Sycosys 1 point2 points ago

uh, no.. cheating was wrong all through my education.. from kindergarten all the way through Graduate school.. the morality of being a cheat is pretty well established by society.

How is what you did immoral?

If everyone on Earth stood tightly knit together and we all jumped at the exact same time, would it affect the Earth's rotation/axis/distance in relation to the Sun? by JibberGXPin askscience

[–]Sycosys 1 point2 points ago

This and if you add up all the mass of people and compare it to the mass of Earth it comes up as something like .0000000000003 percent..

utterly insignificant.

Can brains remember or create thoughts, if separated from the rest of the body? by Zale93in askscience

[–]Sycosys 0 points1 point ago

if it was kept alive it certainly would still be a human brain.. capable of doing everything it used to be able to do..

can't say what you are describing would be altogether different from being in a sensory deprivation chamber.

a mind cut off from all input would probably go insane though..

Will the night sky ever be only light? by DingleyTimin askscience

[–]Sycosys 1 point2 points ago

no. as a matter of fact as the universe continues to expand the light which is able to get here now from far away galaxies wont..

Slowly but surely over time the galaxies in the night sky will blink out until one day all we will be able to see is the stars in our own galaxy..

after even more time the stars in our galaxy will all go dark and all the universe will be is slow burning ancient red dwarfs and dark cinders..

What causes our hair to turn grey when we get old? by BrennanZin askscience

[–]Sycosys 2 points3 points ago

The production of melanin type pigments decreases as you age, you run out of the color producing elements and your hair color fades.

I never drank a carbonated drink in my entire life (soda, beer, etc.) until two nights ago (at the age of 21), when I tried beer for the first time. Why did it burn? by NoReallyItsTruein askscience

[–]Sycosys 0 points1 point ago

well that is when i started drinking soda.. and drinking it too fast was certainly unpleasant.. somewhere between elementary school and Highschool i mastered the sensation and could start chugging a whole beer/ soda without the carbonation causing me "pain"

[–]Sycosys 0 points1 point ago

i drink carbonated drinks with no pain.. it took a while to get used to it.. when i was a kid it hurt, now i don't register it as pain, just fizzy

I think it has to do with the sensation of the CO2 nucleating on your soft tissues. (carbon dioxide bubbles forming on your mouth flesh)
