Everybody's so happy! Picture of Clinton signing repeal of Glass-Steagall Act, surrounded by Citigroup CEO Sandy Weill, his banking cronies, John McCain, and Al Greenspan. "Have at 'er, boys! What the hell did FDR know about banking anyway?!" by dblaisdein economy

Factually inaccurate.

MR or Mental Retardation is merely one of the many categories of intellectual developmental delay that would allow a person to compete in the Special Olympics. There are many occasions where one could be both victorious and not retarded.

When technical writers are forced to make school lunches by jimvwin funny

[–]StalinsLastStand 0 points1 point ago

Dammit. I knew that too. I just read "How the Leopard Got Its Spots" to my wife the other night and used southern accents for all the voices. Let's say that's why I got it wrong.

Thank you for the correction.

Oh, he's an American literary juggernaut. He wrote "White Man's Burden" and plenty of children's stories like "How the Leopard Got It's Spots" (spoiler: An Ethiopian pressed him with his fingertips).

It's surprising. Rudyard Kipling uses it all the time.

How does r/Christianity feel about the passing of amendment one in NC? by Gopherladin Christianity

[–]StalinsLastStand 1 point2 points ago

Remind them of Romans 14:13, a verse I always find the most relevant (but rarely brought up) in discussions on gay marriage and Christianity.

Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother's way. (NIV)

So, if sexual relations before marriage are a sin (and they clearly are, all through the NT they are a BIG deal). Then by preventing gay marriage, even if you believe that they are sinning by their relationship, you are causing them to be forced to commit adultery. That's quite the stumbling block to place in front of your brothers.

Besides trying to push Congress to repeal DOMA, which is unlikely, there isn't really much else he can do. It's a state issue after-all.

Carville: Wake up Democrats; you could lose - CNN.com by m_rothin politics

I told you in the second half of my answer. That link hasn't been updated for the round of primaries last night (Last update May 7th), so I manually added those numbers in. And those were all firm primaries, none of that straw crap.

The 919 is AP, so it probably contains funky numbers you don't buy. so 703 plus 107 from last night is 810.

Carville: Wake up Democrats; you could lose - CNN.com by m_rothin politics

[–]StalinsLastStand 0 points1 point ago

I'm pretty sure I linked my delegate count. I used AP for Romney because they didn't update for last nights results. Even if you take it to the lowest possible for Romney at 810, he still only needs to get 50% of the vote in each remaining state to finish up.

[–]StalinsLastStand 0 points1 point ago

Is it? Is Paul planning on getting 100% of the vote in all of the remaining states? Since, there are only two more "winner take all"s

Oh. And one of those is 40 delegates in Utah.

[–]StalinsLastStand 6 points7 points ago

Wait. You really think Ron Paul's 192 delegates (from http://thereal2012delegatecount.com/) are going to end up upsetting Romney's 919?

That's... optimistic.

Joss Whedon's Hulk vs. Ang Lee's Hulk by tomhagenin movies

[–]StalinsLastStand -1 points0 points ago

No. Not at all. I have absolutely no reason to believe it was him, other than they have a name that can be the same.

I didn't know these had to be factual facts.

Yeah, I didn't remember the details of the case. Salinas just sounded female, even though it's a last name.

Neat fact 9: Lou Ferrigno once ran a woman down with his car. She then wasn't covered by her insurance company because she wasn't within the definition of "Upon". See Salinas v. Economy Fire & Casualty Co., 43 Ill. App. 3d 509 (1976).

If you want to predict President Obama's next Supreme Court appointment (if he gets another), look no further than the 46-year old Asian American woman he successfully nominated to a federal district court in California and then the Ninth Circuit (confirmed yesterday by 91-3 vote) by kavorka2in law

SCOTUS Blog just had a great piece on potential nominees in Feb. Granted, she wasn't considered in the conversation at the time. But, it was interesting.

Majority rules? by nugpornin trees

[–]StalinsLastStand 0 points1 point ago

That's great. And until you vote for people who are willing to help you implement all of this? It's never going to happen.

Run people in local elections, run people in every level election. Show them that people are willing to vote for a party other than the main two, and elect Congressmen (better ratio states could certainly give a good groundswell to some lawyer who agrees with them and get a Congressman) who stand for certain values. Hell, go vote in the primaries. Look at Dick Luger today, long(est)time moderate Republican congressman fighting against a tea party candidate. Where are the candidates you support in those elections?

People want politics and the law to be some fast moving event with big moves and massive switches, and it just isn't. Politics is slow-moving and lumbering. Nothing happens overnight, you have to work and build a better tomorrow with each passing day.

Majority rules? by nugpornin trees

[–]StalinsLastStand 1 point2 points ago

Seriously. You want people to look out for your views? Prove you can reliably show up to elections, show that you'll be there every single year (or at least every two years) voting your heart. Because right now, you're part of a demographic with historically rock-bottom turnouts, and nearly no turnout for midterms. The government represents the voters, not the people who meant to vote but totally forgot to register until like a day before the election and lost their ID anyway.

I like that in a thread about how politicians and police suck and can't be trusted, people are also equally upset that the legislature at some point passed laws to protect people's privacy.

Wowzers.
