TROPHY CASE

What's the most innovative thing you've seen or heard without the use of software? by PhoneySopranoin DJs

[–]Sagerian 0 points1 point ago

Really? Maybe as another DJ you can kind of appreciate him doing something unique. But it's not really innovative, and it definitely wouldn't require as much skill as a full scratch sequence or beat juggling flawlessly.

Sometimes you need to take a break. by Nimiety_Onein DJs

I'm going through a similar time right now... Different circumstances though.

I have a full time job that requires 40+ hours from me a week. I normally have 3-4 gigs a week on top of my fulltime job and then another theatre hobby job.

Last week it all came crashing down. I spent 50 hours at my day job, DJ'd 4 gigs and started bumping in the play. This week I have a cold, can't normally sleep and when I do finally sleep I wake up tireder than when i went to sleep. I'm only djing 1 show every 2 weeks for the next 2 months until i sort this all out...

Native Instruments Support....the absolute worst :( by zarminin DJs

I see people saying in this thread that this is specific to the S4. I guarantee it isn't. It's a problem with the industry.

I bought some powered speakers last year and the tweeter in one of them broke less than a month in. Warranty covered it thankfully. The problem started when i took it to repairers. They said they expected it to take about 3 weeks to source the part and repair the speaker. I was annoyed, but accepted it.

2 and a half weeks down the track I gave them a call to see if they were ahead of schedule but instead learnt they were well and truly behind schedule. Repeat this procedure for almost 2 months when eventually I demanded they get me a replacement speaker. They obliged and instead of having the old one repaired they just swapped me for a new one.

I had weekly gigs while the speaker was being repaired. Hire fees ended up costing me almost enough to pay half of the speaker off.

TLDR. It's not a problem with NI. It's a problem with the industry.

I am in the mood for a good laugh. What video makes you laugh uncontrollably? by Johnkeviin AskReddit

Being someone that has never played Amnesia, is it actually a good game? Or is it just fucking freaky. Is it even that freaky?

Tinnitus sucks, and DJs get it really easily, so protect your ears! A public service announcement from DJ TechTools. by lifeofthunderin DJs

I purchased myself a pair of ER-20s about 6 months ago. While I can sorta use them as a patron in clubs or when I'm in loud environments, I can't DJ with them. At all.

The reason is also one of the featured drawbacks in the article- I feel that I am too disconnected from the energy of the PA and patrons. I feel like every mix is too sharp and harsh, and I feel like the patrons aren't feeling my music.

I keep putting off seeing and audiologist, but very soon I'm going to get my hearing checked and hopefully get myself some moulded plugs that only take out ~5dB.

Getting private gigs by 89jasein DJs

[–]Sagerian 1 point2 points ago

Set up a website.

I do mobile and private gigs on behalf of a fellow DJ when he needs spare djs. His only publicity apart from word of mouth is a website which shows up on the 2nd or 3rd page of google results when you search my cities name and the word DJ, yet he has enough work for about 4-5 djs a week. I should also add that I am too in Aus.

Which part of Aus are you in? In Perth we can charge a lot more than those in the eastern states, but I know for a fact that $140 isn't enough. Not only are you selling yourself short, people might not take you seriously.

I won't do a mobile gig for less than $400, excluding PA and lighting hire.

I find it very interesting that a lot of countries are only just introducing plastic money. In Australia we have had it for almost 20 years.

Noooo. Do not peel it off. As an Australian that has had this happen on a few occasions you do not peel it off. It only encourages the skin around to peel more AND encourages more scarring. And dehydrates you, and is more painful, and makes you exhausted. and it's fucking gross- don't forget about how gross it is.

Why mono? by box801in DJs

[–]Sagerian 5 points6 points ago

What you said is basically the reason. Summed mono is the easiest to deal with. Someone standing on the far right hand side of the room will not miss any part of a stereo track.

Sometimes clubs have multi room set ups where rooms only receive one channel of a stereo output. So there's another reason.

edit: as mentioned elsewhere in this thread, you are going to save yourself a lot of phasing grief too.

I'd just like to remind everyone to hold back on the lynch-mob mentality in this thread. Reddit is no place to be spreading private information or to be publicly posting threats.

At the very best, PM the OP with any information you have.
