That is some badassery right there.

Wish I had seen that.

If you can find one, Nights Out by Metronomy is a great dance record. It reminds me sometimes a little of Talking Heads (Speaking in Tongues era) with its eclecticism. But it's a little more electronic than that.

Here's a Grooveshark link to hear it.

"On Dancefloors" (go figure) is my favorite track. "Heartbreaker" is a great song, too.

Is that an old Dave Brubeck 10"?

What are the best inner and outer sleeves? by RyanTheGodin vinyl

[–]REMAIN_IN_LIGHT 2 points3 points ago

The 5-mil outer sleeves from Acoustic Sounds are the best I've found so far. They are super clear and rigid. Worth the extra couple bucks.

Got a link to that graphic? I'm a designer, too. Just curious to see it.

Solid brass, I tell you. I can respect that.

Almost did a crazy thing: I just lost an eBay auction for a really clean Prestige NYC label original pressing of Relaxin' with the Miles Davis Quintet. I set an esnipe, but the price kept going up. I just hadn't really investigated what these original NYC labels were going for. Well, with an hour left, the auction was at $400. I have wanted a copy of this record for a while – I like to buy original pressings to hear the music as it was when it was released. So I set my final price at $510. The auction ended at $520. Half of me was bummed, the other half was relieved. Still though... pretty sick record.

She is, in fact, keeping it tight.

Hmmm...yeah... Coldplay... maybe worth a listen, but I probably wouldn't buy it.

Funny that you posted this. This actually kind of pissed me off, too, when it happened. I'm sure some marketing consultant came up with the idea – "repackage it to be smaller and look redesigned but charge the same!" The airport security reality is something I'd not thought of.

It's a pretty cool 12". You can find the proper black vinyl version pretty easily, I think. This promo one was just too cool to not track down though. I got on a little Aphex Twin streak a few months back. I found this copy on Discogs from a DJ who was thinning his collection. It is NM. I think I paid like $30. Worth it.

No, they released that as a previous 7 inch. That one was orange.

High. Standards.

What albums do you wish were available on vinyl but are not? by REMAIN_IN_LIGHTin vinyl

Robert Rich - Somnium which I've mentioned before. The song is a 7-hour long Sleep Concert. Though getting up every 30 mins to swap discs would kill the experience.

Ha – you just need one of those old attendant dudes from that scene in Inception where the old people go to drop out and dream all day.

Imagine being able to walk out of a shop with Miles Davis - The Complete Columbia Album Collection on vinyl. 71 - 100 discs easy.

The completest in you.

But I hear that!

[Question] Decently priced used trumpet? Makes? Models? by REMAIN_IN_LIGHTin trumpet

[–]REMAIN_IN_LIGHT[S] 1 point2 points ago

Thanks, and thanks to the others for their advice. If you ever need guitar advice, feel free to shoot me a line...

This whole thing is due, I can assert with confidence, to my recent obsession with Miles Davis. Ah, was he not the gateway trumpeter? Just ask Wynton. Anyway... It has just made me look back on what I wasn't really getting about music in general while I played in Middle School - that I have since come to appreciate. (Honestly, I think I gave it up because of the instructor's way of handling the class size.) I'd just like to mess around with it and see what happens.

That's what she said.
