Now I realize that SRS is where D&D posters come to act like they're in FYAD, without any danger of being banned/mocked.

Recommend strip club in NYC for gf? by sejonredditin nyc

[–]FakeHipster 5 points6 points ago

Some kind moral downvoter in this thread, weird.

My work does not give bonuses to anyone except me (CIO) and the CEO. Would it be weird to give half of it to my team as a "personal gift"? by beefpancakein AskReddit

[–]FakeHipster 78 points79 points ago

Or possibly because the boss thinks he is doing a good turn by giving his subordinate a generous gift. The subordinate is (somewhat self-righteously) refusing the gift, which is kind of an insult. The boss doesn't feel the rest of the subordinates deserve the gift, and thus only gave it to his direct report. This is just a hypothesis.

Nah, the hipster comment would be on the Cards Against Humanity thread: "Umm, I played that game when it was Apples to Apples on vinyl. It was much better" (They would be wrong).

[–]FakeHipster 4 points5 points ago

Dudes, Apples to Apples is the worst. Cards Against Humanity is much better. It's like Apples to Apples, but actually offensive (read: funny). I mean shit, just read their slogan: "free party game for horrible people", that's like, reddit's game right there.

Sounds like the logic board is fucked. I may be wrong, but I think Apple will replace it for you for >$300.

Beers in Baghdad: Remembering the World's Most Dangerous Bar by anutensilin TrueReddit

[–]FakeHipster 2 points3 points ago

The U.S. has (mostly) pulled out of Iraq and Iraqi politics appear to be teetering on a new precipice of chaos. But, Bearman tells Danger Room, James and Ajax are thinking of getting back into the Baghdad bar biz. A condensed version of our conversation follows.

Wired.com: What was your drink at the Baghdad Country Club?

Joshuah Bearman: I actually never went. I heard about it, tragically, after it closed. I didn’t actually cover the war. But my drink would’ve been a Manhattan. If they had the right vermouth.

Sure sounds like a trustworthy source for an article.

NYPD Stop-and-Frisk by leffertsin nyc

[–]FakeHipster 0 points1 point ago

It's not entirely Broken Windows. It's also the adoption of CompStat.

Instead, CompStat is a multilayered dynamic approach to crime reduction, quality of life improvement, and personnel and resource management. CompStat employs Geographic Information Systems and was intended to map crime and identify problems. In weekly meetings, ranking NYPD executives meet with local precinct commanders from one of the eight patrol boroughs in New York City to discuss the problems. They devise strategies and tactics to solve problems, reduce crime, and ultimately improve quality of life in their assigned area.

Porn That Women Like: Why Does It Make Men So Uncomfortable? by arl2146in TrueReddit

[–]FakeHipster 7 points8 points ago

From the comments:

You've got to be kidding. This guy, while lacking in tribal tattoos, makes up for it in being like every other incredibly raunchy porn star. As a normal heterosexual male, I've seen him in tons of porn (as there's really only like 5 male porn stars, as the article says, and there in everything), and, past looks, he is in no way some sensual lovemaking hebrew camp dude. He does not stare longingly into their eyes and whispers in their ears. He chokes women, slaps them, does pretty degrading things to them. He fits perfectly into the stereotype of porn as a male-centric, women-as-objects display of power. If women actually watch him, If a women who did not like porn watched one of his, they would in no way find it any different, save the frosted tips, ect. This artice is really silly.

I can't, cough, corroborate this dudes story, but if true the article would seem to be less than trustworthy.

I'm sorry to break this to you, but your 7 years in an authoritarian country of over a billion people doesn't mean jack shit. By that I mean: there are too many people, too many situations, and way too much obfuscation on the part of the government for you to have a remotely realistic idea of what goes on.

Also:

Please see Transparency International's corruption index ranking the US a 7.1 on a 10 point scale (10 being the most "clean", 0 being the most corrupt). China ranks a 3.6. Transparency International is an NGO based in Germany. Link

[–]FakeHipster 4 points5 points ago

What? How does this make sense? OP says US is one of the most corrupt countries in the world. We measure against one of the most corrupt nations in the world (Somalia) and find them to be utterly different. How did I prove his point what so ever?

[–]FakeHipster 115 points116 points ago

Hey look, a sane well thought out response. I started reading the OP and didn't get past "your political system is one of the most corrupt systems in the world" until I rolled my eyes. I mean good lord, OP really thinks the US political system is worse than say, Somalia?! Hell, even China's Communist Party is far more corrupt than the US system.

VICTORY! House committee cancels vote on SOPA (Internet censorship bill) and adjourns for the year. Join the petition and keep up the pressure so we can kill this bill dead next year. by J-Roin politics

[–]FakeHipster 1 point2 points ago*

They didn't really back down on anything. They haven't accepted any amendments, and Smith is still going ahead with the whole thing and hasn't learned a damn thing about anything:

“I am pleased that the unfounded claims of critics of the Stop Online Piracy Act have overwhelmingly been rejected by a majority of House Judiciary Committee members," Smith said.

Among the amendments defeated were attempts to strip the bill's private right of action and exempt educational institutions from its terms.

“The criticism of this bill is completely hypothetical; none of it is based in reality. Not one of the critics was able to point to any language in the bill that would in any way harm the Internet. Their accusations are simply not supported by any facts," Smith added.

...yeah. This isn't even remotely a victory. It is a delay.
