This is am independant project that ran out of money. CATO made the best offer to the creator to keep it going.

The NFL's evidence against the Saints will be made public once all player appeals and grievances are completed by spedmonkeyin nfl

[–]DonDriver -3 points-2 points ago

Does it seem to anybody else that the NFL worries about damage control for their image before thinking things through.

The bounties issue could have been a chance for the NFL to reach out to the players and try to rebuild their relationship. Instead, it further alienated the commissioner and executives from the players.

Mitt Romney's Bain Capital took $20 profit for every dollar invested in Ampad. Creditors got $0.002. by JJFFMMin politics

[–]DonDriver 5 points6 points ago

On the other hand, you could argue Romney was very good at his job while at Bain when he was working for a company to maximize their profits and had no incentive to help the creditors or anyone else. As President, when his job should be to improve America for everyone, the incentive structure changes and the same competence that allowed Romney to make money for Bain will go towards making America better for everyone.

In fact, I believe the business experiences of Romney are far more suited to the office of the President than the community and academic work that Obama did.

If you accept my first two paragraphs (and I think both are very well stated and make perfect sense) then the only reason to not vote for Romney comes from the line: "when his job should be to improve America for everyone." If Romney is just a corporate shill who views the job of The President to improve the lives of his supporters then he absolutely shouldn't be President. I believe Romney is a bad person who will not use the office he's running for with good intent and that is why he shouldn't be President. But if he wanted to help the world, I bet he'd do a bang-up job.

Reddit, as a classical musician, tell me what we could do better. What is it about classical music that keeps you away from our concerts? by a12345678910in AskReddit

[–]DonDriver 1 point2 points ago

Because classical music isn't a show. If I went to see a rock group and it just sounded like them playing on the album, I'd be disappointed. If I'm going to pay a lot to go to a show then I want a show. And, when I've gone to a classic music performance that doesn't have the same atmosphere as a funeral, it is because the conductor is either a pretentious asshole or an unfunny mook who won't stop making bad jokes.

If I can listen to a world class orchestra playing the same songs for a $9 album, why should I go see a non-world class orchestra play? And I assume any world class orchestra costs more than I'm willing to pay for such an event.

[–]DonDriver 2 points3 points ago

My opinion is based on almost a decade in mathematics departments. It is a well informed and well educated opinion. I've seen the scores of e-mails sent monthly to my undergrad adviser from hacks who think they've done something. Once in a blue moon, a Ramanujan comes along and send an unsolicited letter that actually contains something of note. SupBitchez, are you Ramanujan?

If you have solved it, I will eat serious crow and give you all the praise in the world for solving a centuries old open problem that lots of people have devoted their lives to understanding.... especially doing it in 3 lines. Don't worry about attribution and don't call somebody's opinion uneducated when you don't know where that opinion is coming from.

[–]DonDriver 0 points1 point ago

You haven't.

Write it out here. Send an e-mail to somebody so you have a timestamped version of your proof if you're worried about attribution in the extremely unlikely chance it is correct.

This isn't me trying to be cruel, just that your title is going to be viewed with extreme skepticism even coming from a world renowned mathematician. But please, write it out. Finding holes in proofs is something you're going to need to learn to do if you want to "do math".

Packersnews.com | Driver: My contract with Packers not over by rreschin GreenBayPackers

What if there are multiple overtimes. A triple OT game runs at least 4.5 hours. Add the ceremony and the 2.5 hours it takes the make the switch and The Lakers game would likely have to start later.

Yo foodit, what do I cook for my vegetarian date? by enema_blastin food

[–]DonDriver 2 points3 points ago

Tofu and Mushrooms in an asian sauce.

Coat some tofu in rice flour and fry in 1/2 inch of oil until crispy.

Meanwhile cook some garlic and ginger in oil and add mushrooms (be fancy, use oyster, crimini, and white... cut in advance of her arriving... gives you more time to talk to her), cook the mushrooms on med-high for 5-7 minutes. Add some soy sauce, toasted sesame oil, mirin, and rice wine. Mix some cornstarch with a cup of water and add it in.

Add in your deep fried tofu and serve over rice/thin noodles that you dealt with before all this.

Maybe a small edamame salad on the side.

I may have made this before while in a similar situation and it may have led to things that deserve a different subreddit.

Added: Buy some tart shells, make this and put it inside the tart shells. Top with some raspberries. Surprise your date with awesomeness.

The New Orleans Saints Must Sign Drew Brees To A Long-Term Deal by SheNerdin nfl

[–]DonDriver 1 point2 points ago

A game theory answer is that all contract negotiations are games. The Saints have the advantage in this game because come June 22 (or some date near then... or maybe July 22 I'm not positive)the ability to sign a long term contract goes away. The Saints are abusing that fact to try and lowball Brees or put him in a position where he has no.choice but to sign the tag with the only question being to hold out until training camp is over (bad for his public image) or sign immediately (what the Saints want).

The New Orleans Saints Must Sign Drew Brees To A Long-Term Deal by SheNerdin nfl

[–]DonDriver 1 point2 points ago

Brees is in a tough position with respect to negotiation. On June 22, he loses all leverage since after then, he can't put together a multi-year deal. Once they reach that point, Brees has to decide whether to help the team or punish the ownership/GM.

If he helps the team by being at OTAs and mini-camps then he hurts the players as a whole (league wide) by showing that even a top 3 QB really doesn't have leverage. If he punishes the team by not showing up at the last minute then he'll be called selfish and egotistical across the media landscape for putting his contract dispute above winning.

I hope he holds back and refuses to the play until the end of training camp. I'm not saying this because I want The Saints to lose but because I think any team that plays silly contract games with someone who has been one of the 3 best QBs in the league for the past few years doesn't deserve him.

Every Year, 5 or 6 Teams that made The Playoffs The Year Before Fails to Make it. Which 5 or 6 Do you Think Won't Be In? Who Will Replace Them? by DonDriverin nfl

[–]DonDriver[S] -1 points0 points ago

I actually had them on my out list at first. Then I went through the division and couldn't imagine any other team in the playoffs. I wouldn't put it past Hasselbeck to have a great year and steal the division but I consider that scenario unlikely.

[–]DonDriver[S] 1 point2 points ago

Bengals were a flash in the pan IMO. Ravens' stars are getting older, they just lost the scariest defensive player in the game, and while I'm less pessimistic on Flacco than I used to be, I still don't see him leading a team to 10 wins without a top-3 defense.

Raiders and Bills because I'm a sucker for those teams and I think they've both significantly better this offseason after showing promise last season.

Indianapolis says it lost $1.1M as host of Super Bowl by Rafelitoin nfl

[–]DonDriver 9 points10 points ago

I believe that means it factors in those increases for what goes into the city's pockets since more car rentals = more tax dollars. For the actual businesses in the city, the additional income was probably significantly positive. For a city's government to spend $1.1 million on an event that sent significant money to local businesses and improved the city's exposure on a national level is probably worth it.

Help with baking a large amount of potatoes - by LeiLowin Cooking

[–]DonDriver 3 points4 points ago

This highlights a difference between microwaves and conventional ovens. With a microwave, the volume affects cooking time. In a conventional oven, the amount of potatoes you put in doesn't increase the cooking time (in a significant way). Bake as many as you can per oven.
