"Little Fockers" was the highest-grossing film this weekend. If you saw it, I have a question... (self.movies)
submitted 1 year ago by Subduction
What is wrong with you?
This isn't a kids film, you don't have the excuse of the people who saw that Yogi Bear movie.
If you keep paying to see these half-assed crapfests they will keep making them.
Seriously, get your act together.

When I went to go watch True Grit, I saw a long line formed in front of a theatre. It was in my theatres direction and I got discouraged, thinking that I would end up getting a shitty seat. I burst out laughing when I saw the line was for Little Fockers.
[–]OwlEyed 69 points70 points71 points 1 year ago
To live in a world in which Little Fockers brings in more people than True Grit...
[–]poopmcscoots 19 points20 points21 points 1 year ago
Makes me sad, man. True Grit is great though, saw it last night.
[–]OwlEyed 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago
I still haven't seen it, since I'm on vacation with family. But if the reviews are true, then I'm super stoked.
[–]Moosebomber 8 points9 points10 points 1 year ago
To live in a world where one of the greatest actors ever, with some of the best performances of all time in taxi driver and raging bull, is in little fockers.
[–]thrav 2 points3 points4 points 1 year ago
Move to Texas. The True Grit showing I was in sold out.
[–]squeezehertits 3 points4 points5 points 1 year ago
are you kidding me? If True Grit had been the top grossing film, that had everyone lined up around the block to see it, and theaters were brimming, (most of) you people would be whining about how it is so over rated and so lame. That aside, I agree with the op that movies like "little fockers" are half assed crapfests, but I say good riddance, it keeps the moronic bastards who find that shit entertaining from being annoying and breathing up all the good air at the screening of my movie.
[–]timin 5 points6 points7 points 1 year ago
Are you a rebellious twelve year old? No, we wouldn't.
[–]erizzluh 9 points10 points11 points 1 year ago
I went through the same thing when I saw a crowded theater, until I walked into True Grit on the first day it was released and saw that 90% of the seats were vacant. That was discouraging in an entirely different way.
[–]alheezy 12 points13 points14 points 1 year ago
I went to see True Grit last night and there was a line out the door for it. Don't give up hope.
[–]coca909 7 points8 points9 points 1 year ago
Bit off topic: holy fuck True Grit was grand.
[–]phar40h 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago
This happened to me also, but instead of True Grit it was Black Swan and instead of Little Fockers it was Yogi Bear... :/
[–]chumpp 93 points94 points95 points 1 year ago
If the movie stinks, just don't go.
Sadly, there will always be a lot of people that will go to movies just to go to movies. I used to work at a movie theater and I was amazed at how many people would just buy a ticket for a movie they couldn't even pronounce or clearly wasn't intended for them. I wish you could get more people to not go to bad movies so that we could get more high quality ones on a regular basis, but that will never happen. If a movie will make a profit, it will get made. At the end of the year, it doesn't matter how well the movie was received as long as it was profitable.
[–]nugz85 19 points20 points21 points 1 year ago
Upvote for the Critic. Hachi Machi!
[–]frenchkick 6 points7 points8 points 1 year ago
It stinks!

[–]edstatue 6 points7 points8 points 1 year ago
In his Areopagitica, Milton argues that we can't know good [movies] without knowing bad [movies]. Perhaps these people are followers of Milton's philosophy.
Or perhaps they are morons.
[–]Jacob2040 4 points5 points6 points 1 year ago

Funny story, my 70-year-old grandmother made a mistake of watching a movie not intended for her. She thought she bought a ticket to a documentary film on Queen Elizabeth I, sometimes referred to as "The Virgin Queen." She uncomfortably sat through an entire screening of "40-Year-Old Virgin," because she was too embarrassed to walk-out.
[–]Haggletrops 2 points3 points4 points 1 year ago
Reminds me of the time that my Aunt went to see One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, under the impression that it was a comedy.
[–]JamesHouse 18 points19 points20 points 1 year ago
Little Fockers may have been the highest grossing movie of the weekend, but that doesn't make a success by any means. In the last five days the movie has made 48 million vs the 70 million that its predecessor made in the same time span. At its current rate, the film is likely to fall faster than both prior movies and made less than half the take of Meet the Fockers.
So while the movie will indeed make money, it will still be viewed by distributors as a disappointment and hopefully prompt studios to invest in new ideas. Have faith! People are making better decisions than it may appear!
[–]spikey666 59 points60 points61 points 1 year ago
But... but... Just look at this cast! Robert De Niro! Ben Stiller! Dustin Hoffman! Owen Wilson! Barbra Streisand! Harvey Keitel! Jessica Alba! Some of the biggest stars of our day! Three Oscar-winning actors! Sixteen combined Academy Award acting nominations! How could this movie be bad!?
[–]anyletter 11 points12 points13 points 1 year ago
These movies don't have much of a negative impact on their careers, is an easy job and pays ridiculously well.
[–]negrin 9 points10 points11 points 1 year ago
Don't know about you but when I think of De Niro's career taking a slump, I think of the "Meet the Parents" series. As for Dustin Hoffman and Barbara Streissand, he doesn't really have much in the way of a career right now so the movies can't exactly have a negative impact on it either.
[–][deleted] 21 points22 points23 points 1 year ago
Its worth seeing just to see how low so many people will stoop for some money.

Dustin Hoffman actually declined to be a part of it, but I heard they rewrote his lines so he only had 5-6.
[–]Deezaster 115 points116 points117 points 1 year ago
I work for a movie theater...every single dumb shit comes in and says "Little Fuckers" when ordering their tickets. How very clever they are, not to mention they are supremely self-satisfied with themselves when they make the "joke." One idiot tonight even directly voiced his own self- satisfaction, the look I gave him took the smile right off of his face and then he left after his sale, presumably to go rethink every bad decision he has ever made in his life.
TL;DR Fuck the "Little Fuckers"
[–]bomber991 79 points80 points81 points 1 year ago
Yeah, it's like when you wash your car outside and the neighbor is like "Hey can you wash mine next? Hahahaha", or when you get stuck holding a purse for a lady, and every guy that walks buy is like "Hey, nice purse!, hahaha". I just call it the idiot reflex, people can't help it.
[–]square965 38 points39 points40 points 1 year ago
And don't even get me started about when I wash my car inside.
[–]bomber991 5 points6 points7 points 1 year ago
Heh yeah, I guess just about everyone washes their cars outside don't they.
[–]makeinstall 3 points4 points5 points 1 year ago
It was a dangling modifier. It is one step above your so called "idiot reflex". The only appropriate response to one of those is a punch in the face.
[–]AdamAnt92 11 points12 points13 points 1 year ago
My neighbor was bipolar, and as a kid I mowed his lawn to get some money, he said, "The yard looks great! Let me go grab some dollar bills." When he came back he said, "It looks like fucking shit." And slammed the door in my face. Either he was off his medicine, or got free lawncare.
[–]poopmcscoots 7 points8 points9 points 1 year ago
or both!
[–]bomber991 7 points8 points9 points 1 year ago
So are you going to tell us what you did after this? Did it involve a flaming bag that might or might not have been filled with dog feces?
[–]PoontangDiver 2 points3 points4 points 1 year ago
Who said it needed to be dog feces?
[–]Diggydigdug 3 points4 points5 points 1 year ago
"This bag looks great! No, actually it looks like fucking shit."
[–]SDBred619 35 points36 points37 points 1 year ago*
I took a chick to go see Black Swan today at a small theater in a hipster area of town. So I ask for two tickets and the fucker gives me a heavy sigh and slams my tickets down. I still have no idea what it was about, I've been going over it in my head all night. At first I thought maybe I was overreacting but even my date noticed.
Fuck you gay dude at Landmark in Hillcrest, shit was not necessary.
[–]Brank_Manderbeak 39 points40 points41 points 1 year ago
He was just sighing about something that you probably haven't heard of before.
[–]ImLosingMyEdge 45 points46 points47 points 1 year ago
He was obviously a hipster fed up with all the mongoloids who insist on seeing movies on film. He only watches movies on vinyl.
[–]Hraes 11 points12 points13 points 1 year ago
It's not Hillcrest, it's the hipster. He probably went to see Little Fockers that night, because everyone else went to see Black Swan because it's "good" or something.
[–]Puggles1 6 points7 points8 points 1 year ago
Dude go to ultrastar in Mission Valley. Always empty, best theater in town.
[–]jenrzzz 2 points3 points4 points 1 year ago
I always forget about that place. They are quite literally underground.
[–]ghostchamber 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago
You should have called him out on it. Of course, I say that knowing that I probably would have just let it slide as well. But then I would spend all my time thinking about how I should have asked the guy: "Is there a problem with that?"
He probably is too hipster to enjoy Aronofsky films.
[–]toafroman 13 points14 points15 points 1 year ago
I know it's annoying, but your comment seems filled with a lot of hate. Chill. You probably make dumb jokes too sometimes.
[–]GarbageChute 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago
Yeah, really. And the fact that you managed to take a smile off an excited movie goers face actually makes you sound like a pretty big asshole.
[–]Numlocks 2 points3 points4 points 1 year ago
Did you ever get the guy doing the ticket fake out on his girlfriend? Guy walks up to ticket tearer and says "I dont know who this lady is here is just my ticket ha ha ha". His girlfriend looks at him annoyed and I have to pretend thats the first time I've ever heard that joke.
[–]Robo-Captain 3 points4 points5 points 1 year ago
This. And yet when Kick Ass or Jackass comes to theaters, they censor the title. Such bullshit.
[–]fookhar 6 points7 points8 points 1 year ago

i hate ben stillers style of 'everything that can go wrong, does' comedy in these movies. it seems since along came polly or whatever he has just been doing these really annoying, incredible bad luck characters in every movie.
[–]thinkbox 3 points4 points5 points 1 year ago
I will forgive him of anything if Zoolander 2 is what I hope it will be.
[–]shord143 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago
Not really. In The Royal Tenenbaums his character didn't go through this type of experience. I also thought he did well in Dodgeball. I will give you that everytime he gets the lead role, this seems to be the case.
[–]warpri81 4 points5 points6 points 1 year ago
Don't forget Zoolander. Aside from the orangemochafrappaccino freak gasoline fight explosion incident, things worked out pretty well for that really incredibly good looking dude.

[–]erizzluh 38 points39 points40 points 1 year ago
GENERALLY, taste is subjective, but tell me that human shit tastes better than a steak. Or that Justin Bieber makes better music than Dylan. Sometimes things flat out suck.
[–]kihadat 6 points7 points8 points 1 year ago
Pollock sucks. I've seen several in person and there is nothing aesthetically pleasing about his work. Yet, people somehow and inexplicably believe his shit is gold. One man's garbage is another man's treasure, I guess.
[–]bigmouth_strikes 12 points13 points14 points 1 year ago
Well it's art, not home decoration so it's doesn't have to be aestetically pleasing to be good.
Art comes with a context and with a meaning and a purpose. If you don't understand it, you can still apply the simple "aestetically pleasing" criterion but you cannot appreciate it they way it was intended.
[–]Haggletrops 10 points11 points12 points 1 year ago
The term that was always used to describe people like Pollock and Warhol by the professors when I was an Art major was "Bullshit Art". Bullshit Art is when a piece is regarded as fine art solely because no one is willing to admit that they don't get it and they want to save face among their peers. It is literally a phenomena where no one is willing to speak against it for fear of being the odd man out. It is the cancer in the art community that perpetuates pieces like Piss Jesus and the Starving Dog exhibit.
The joy of Warhol was that he spent his whole career intentionally seeing how far he could take the phenomena of Bullshit Art before people had the balls to call him out. If anything, he was a performance artist whose art was the public's reactions to his pieces. If you don't think Warhol was trollin', just look at any interview he did.
[–]hooplah 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago
I really have to disagree about Pollock and Warhol falling under that description. Warhol was making a statement about reproduction, and Pollock was making a statement about the artist. I think there are plenty of people in the world who "understand" their work.
[–]Shoegaze99 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago
Piss Christ, if looked at without the context of the controversy and the piss, is actually quite a beautiful photograph. Look at it and forget for a moment what it is and all that surrounded it. Taken on its own, it's a great image.
That said, I largely agree with your premise.
[–]Zabazu 6 points7 points8 points 1 year ago
Well Justin Bieber is the Kurt Cobain of this generation...so..
[–]Brank_Manderbeak 16 points17 points18 points 1 year ago
Then I look forward to the day he blows his own head off with a shotgun.
Call up Courtney Love and see if she can expedite the process.
[–]Freiling 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago
People should only comment in threads to which they have something constructive to add.
[–]ChaosMotor 9 points10 points11 points 1 year ago
Look at it this way - people who are going to the movies on Christmas Eve, Christmas, and Boxing Day probably have a very strong attachment not to specific movies, but to watching the newest movies, whatever they are. I disagree with the lack of discrimination in funding these abominations, but I can understand how the horrendously bad but widely advertised movies make lots of money. A whole bunch of people just do whatever the TV tells them to.
I think it's this. I don't see any problem with the fact that this movie is doing well at the box office. It was well marketed and sequels almost always out-gross the original and almost always are poorly received by critics, at least compared to the original. Of course there are exceptions but it's especially true for comedies. And some people just like going to the movies when they have a day off and want to see something they are familiar with.
[–]DoctorJesus 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago
I took a bunch of mushrooms and saw Tron in 3D. I think I did Christmas right, to be honest.

[–]krakow057 4 points5 points6 points 1 year ago
what is wrong with people that only get their kicks by criticizing other people?
Seriously, OP, get your act together.
it's a movie, people went to see it have a laugh. that's it. maybe it isn't your type of humour (I guess that would be the 'ironic' or pop culture ridden ones.. .LOL STAR WARS JOKE HOW NOVEL)
not every movie has to be an Oscar bore with people crying or looking serious all the time.
[–]Vvyyzz 10 points11 points12 points 1 year ago
Who the fuck are you and how did you get so emotionally invested in a movie to hate it without even seeing it?

"STOP LIKING THINGS!!!"
[–]Titan777 29 points30 points31 points 1 year ago
To everyone making posts bashing Subduction for "telling us what to do," please shut up. Little Fockers and movies like it are terrible, and the more we see them the more shitty sequels and spin-offs they make. Sort of like why there are 4 Scary Movies, Disaster Movie, Epic Movie, Date Movie, etc. If Subduction making a post bashing a stupid comedy and the people who saw it offends you, get over it.
[–]flfolks 5 points6 points7 points 1 year ago
I didn't see the movie and don't plan on it because it is of no interest to me. Get that last part? ME. I don't give a shit what other people watch because I am no longer a teenager who thinks my taste in entertainment makes me special. Peoples tastes in entertainment seem to offend you, perhaps you should consider getting over it.
[–]notic4lyf 7 points8 points9 points 1 year ago
Question. How do studios making bad movies affect you in any way? I mean really. Is there seriously a void or something now where good movies only pop up occasionally thanks to all the bad ones? Did True Grit not come out this same week as Little Fockers? Funny you should tell people to get over the OP's post when crying about petty shit that doesn't affect you also warrants a pretty damn big "GET OVER IT" as well.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago*
What ever happened to good spoof movies? Hot shots, Airplane! - Where did all the comedians go?

I saw True Grit. (Run out NOW and see it.) This little focker never made my short list, nor my long list.
[–]c_megalodon 2 points3 points4 points 1 year ago
Wow man. I don't like a lot of movies that are popular which make you stand in a very, very long lines to get the ticket. I don't like Avatar, The Last Airbender, 2012, etc. I think they suck and it baffles me that a lot of people actually spent their time waiting in line to buy the ticket and another 2 hours watching it.
But shit man, I never ask what's wrong with them. I never tell them not to watch it (except in a clearly humorous manner which I don't really mean). They can watch it by all means. Maybe they really do enjoy these movies. Maybe they don't care. It has nothing to do with me. People have the right to watch what-fucking-ever movies they want. Who are you to tell people otherwise?
Edit: I wouldn't actually mind, though. But you posted this shit in /r/movies and it gets 181 karma while other, better thread about movies could've get the attention instead. /r/movies have a lot of bad thread/link as it is. /r/circlejerk is in another street.
[–]CornFedHonky 2 points3 points4 points 1 year ago
Ok, at the risk of being downvoted I have to ask ...did you not find the other focker movies funny? I've found them all funny so far, DeNiro is a great comedic actor. I agree the new one looks pretty sketchy, but it does still have an A-list cast. I can guarantee that that, and the success of the first couple movies is why it's doing so well.
Everyone had their own taste. For instance, is be asking you what's wrong with you going to see true grit when tron in 3d is out...
Disclaimer: I want to see true grit...bad.
[–]flfolks 2 points3 points4 points 1 year ago
Who cares. You are not a superior human being because of your taste in movies.
[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 1 year ago
I saw it. I tried desperately to get someone in my family to see True Grit or Black Swan with me, but they all refused. They didn't want to see anything "arty farty." I finally caved and just went with them to see Little Fockers. At least I didn't pay for the ticket myself.
[–]thewishmaster 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago
Along a similar vein, I saw The Tourist the other day... likely better than Little Fockers, but still far from a good film.
Maybe you can use this as a lesson and point out that they would have enjoyed your choice of movies more so maybe they'll listen next time. Or give them statistics- when over 9 out of 10 critics say it's a bad movie [Rotten Tomatoes], people's opinions change.
[–]iltat_work 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago
He didn't say whether his companions enjoyed the movie or not, what makes you think they didn't like it?
Personally, I saw True Grit this weekend, and I found it quite overrated. It was a decent movie, but I wasn't impressed by anyone's performance overall except Barry Pepper (Lucky Ned), and the story felt as forced as any action movie I've seen in the last couple years. On the other hand, I saw Black Swan earlier in the week and felt Natalie Portman did a fantastic job in her role while the movie was actually engaging and interesting along the way. I saw both purely because they were receiving wide acclaim and I was curious to see what all the fuss was about. Just because the critics love something doesn't mean I (or his companions) will.
Well, they thought it was a great movie, so no dice. And I did tell them what the critics said, and they accused me of being a snob and not being able to have a "real" opinion about a movie without a critic telling me what to think.
[–]Joke_Getter 8 points9 points10 points 1 year ago
Why do people care so much about this? Is there some magical law of physics for Hollywood that says if they don't make these movies, they'll make better ones? There are plenty of good movies out right now, go see them and stop worrying about what everyone else is doing.
Or if your brain disease prevents you from not caring, then care about it this way: the Little Fockers make the money to finance the True Grits.
[–]Subduction[S] 5 points6 points7 points 1 year ago
Is there some magical law of physics for Hollywood that says if they don't make these movies, they'll make better ones?
Actually, that's more of a magical law of economics.
then care about it this way: the Little Fockers make the money to finance the True Grits.
What I think is that you don't know much about movies. Little Fockers is "financing" the Coen brothers?
Over the course of their career the Coen brothers have spent $265 million to generate $795 million in worldwide grosses.
They've averaged $50 million per film earned against an average $26 million budget per film.
Anyone will invest in a Coen Brothers film. The only thing that would happen if Little Fockers went away is that a certain portion of the population might have a moment to rediscover their self-respect.
[–]Joke_Getter 6 points7 points8 points 1 year ago
So then you have nothing to worry about, which seems to be the real tragedy here. What's going to happen when you encounter some actual adversity in life?
A for your magical economics assertion, let me ask you this: did you go see Greenberg? I'm guessing just like everyone else in the country, including the Fockers fans you hate, you didn't. But it was a smart, indie film, right? It wouldn't have been made at all if Fockers didn't make money, and after bombing spectacularly it will take more Nights at the Museum and Fockers successes for Ben Stiller to get another Greenberg green lit. So stop pretending there is some urge toward quality on the part of Hollywood that is only being stymied by the people you consider stupid.
[–]misterteenwolf 3 points4 points5 points 1 year ago
without reading all of the comments, i'm gonna go ahead and assume that every comment is someone that doesn't plan on seeing the movie. thats fine and all (i don't plan on seeing it either) but its not a big deal
[–]darthsader 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago
Why didn't everyone see True Grit?
It was fantastic!
[–]sheepgod5000 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago
Everyone saw true grit when it came out 20 years ago....
[–]BeefLinger 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago
I thought the question was going to be "Fuck you". I know it's not a question, but it seems appropriate.
I tried so hard to convince my mom not to take my six year old brother to see it. I don't understand how it could be okay for a 6 year old to see. Also, don't you think it's sad that the person that realized "fockers" sounds like "fuckers" has made more money off of that stupid idea than most make in their life. supreme troll.
[–]PGset 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago
Real talk!
[–]Steve_Hyde 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago
man i worked today.
some italian guy looked at me square in the eye and said Little Fockers
for some reason i started laughing, then he said " what? i pronounced it right didn't I"
i was not high
[–]ericfromtx 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago
You must live a sad little life.
I can't believe you haven't even seen the movie.
I haven't seen it, but had to share this.
In France, the third movie in the Meet the Parents movie is not called Meet the Little Fockers. The joke would be lost in translation, and anyway, the main characters in France were renamed Furnicher.
Instead, it goes by the lame title, My Father-in-law and us (Mon beau-pere et nous)
My wife is French, and one of the adorable things of being in a relationship with someone who is not native in your language is the little errors they make.
Looking at cinema listings, she was surprised to see the title change for Meet the Little Fockers. "Mais, en anglais, ca s'appelle" - but, in English, it's called - "Meet the Baby Fockers."
Which sounds a much more interesting movie to me.
[–]CorranHorn 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago
Honest question. As someone who loves the Coen Brothers, and all their movies. Do you really think that True Grit is something most people want to watch on Christmas, or the day after? It is not in the holiday spirit.
[–]Subduction[S] 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago
I didn't make that comparison.
[–]RambleMan 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago
With all the positive talk about the Scott Pilgrim movie, I rented it. I'd never heard of the character before and had no idea what the film might be about. I didn't make it through. Stopped it and returned it. The stupidest movie ever made. Made for people with ADD.
Do I expect the reddit hivemind to agree with me? Nah, actually I think it'll start bashing me and quoting lines that I don't get.
Everybody has their own taste. Scott Pilgrim to me was moronic. I'm not even going to bother with Baby Fockers.
This is the shit that is holding us back as a species.
[–]kalisana 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago
My holiday treat is Please Please Me, a funny French farce about sex and relationships. If you liked any Jacques Tati film, you'll like this. Our hero is a well-meaning buffoon who, against his will, has to negotiate a night out being chased by some of cinema's most gorgeous women.
[–]caffeineme_at_work 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago
Maybe...just maybe...some of them needed to get THE F*CK out of the house for a couple of hours, and to sit somewhere quiet and dark and maybe just zone out for awhile.
I've had holiday weekends with the family where ANY movie, anywhere, would have been attended JUST so I wouldn't have to listen to more people talking about nothing.
Sadly, they got wise to me, and now everyone goes to the movie with me. :(
You know what, that's the only critical comment that's made any sense.
So I guess my problem is that Little Fockers didn't have the right tag line:
"Little Fockers: Slightly better than ending Christmas with a gun in your mouth."
[–]redfox2 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago
I saw in the reviews that it sucked - never going to watch
[–]devilshootsdevil 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago
Objectively it's a terrible movie, but I laughed my ass off. I guess it's hard to live your pretentious life from up there.
[–]nedak 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago
It was terrible.
[–]jjohn3575 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago
My friend saw it and said it was pretty good, its all in your opinion. Not everybody has to agree with what you do or do not like.
[–]PolishPrince 32 points33 points34 points 1 year ago
Well... I was with my family. Enjoyed the first two, so we thougth we would give this one a try. Who the hell are you? Does it get lonely up there on your pedistal? I enjoyed a feel good comedy with my family for a couple hours on Christmas night... What did you do that was so great?
[–]timin 20 points21 points22 points 1 year ago
It is a proven fact that erectile dysfunction jokes are fun for the whole family. I like to make eye contact with my parents when it comes up in casual conversation around the dinner table.
:)
The 'prince' is mad at you for being on a pedestal.
[–]PolishPrince 3 points4 points5 points 1 year ago
hahaha... Point for you.
[–]WarpvsWeft 44 points45 points46 points 1 year ago
I saw it because I have a retarded sister-n-law that goes to see these movies instead of cutting herself.
Calling this "a good comedy" is a funnier line than that whole fucking movie.
I'm going to go cut myself.
[–]catchthemouse 20 points21 points22 points 1 year ago
he meant to say "feel-good". as in, a movie that makes you feel good because you can imagine that life is really that simple. I don't condone that kind of escapism (I prefer sci-fi and fantasy like many people on this intersite), but whatever.
[–]esthers 6 points7 points8 points 1 year ago

[–]klafka 34 points35 points36 points 1 year ago
You enjoyed a saccharine crapfest churned out by hollywood. Your continued patronage of this drivel means they will continue to churn it out like a diarrhetic cow.
You are part of the problem.
[–]Mikhail664 2 points3 points4 points 1 year ago*
somebody is a little self righteous, not everybody who wants to see a movie has to watch some Ambigous Kubrick avante garde masterpiece. Reddit likes to gratuitously smoke large amounts weed evident from trees, yet nobody judges the consequential inproductivity or laziness that comes with it, also nobody criticizes them for not doing something more intellecually stiumlating like reading a book or excercise to achieve a 'high' or state of self satisfaction, also nobody crticizes them for not taking a more potent drug to achieve a more transcendant state of mind. Sometimes people settle for shit, people like to get drunk smoke cigarettes and eat bacon, waste time on video games and these all seem fine by reddits standards.
You my friend are a part of the problem and are the reason to why reddit cannot and will not be taken seriously as you spout baseless crap, granted I somewhat agree with your opinion it is just dressed up with self righteous rhetorical verbosity that lacks any logic and if anyone who disagrees is wrong period. This is proof why hivemind mentallity is fucking dumb rife with double standards and is no different than mainstream conformity. If you dont like the movies out there, dont watch, make your own, write a review but dont just sit behind a fucking computer while jerking of in your bed sheets your parents paid and bitch.
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 1 year ago
So movies are either cryptic Kubrick-type films or shit comedies like Little Fockers? In what world do you live in?
[–]iltat_work 3 points4 points5 points 1 year ago
Mmmm, judgment. Nothing like some good old holier-than-thou judgment to finish off an evening.
I'm curious though, how does your judgment fix the problem? If Person A enjoyed the "saccharine crapfest churned out by hollywood", then wouldn't they not give a shit about some hipster jack-off's opinion about their viewing because by continuing their patronage, their encouraging Hollywood to make more films that they themselves will enjoy? It almost seems like they wouldn't recognize that there is a problem at all since the films they are seeing are ones they enjoy.
Perhaps you'll be able to show them the magic light from up on your oh-so-tiny internet messageboard pedestal. Or maybe you'll continue to churn saccharine insults like a diarrhetic cow.
[–]dlberk 7 points8 points9 points 1 year ago
He didn't make a piece of shit movie like this one. I'd say that's doing something pretty great.

[–]dafones 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago
Genuinely, did you enjoy the third? Do you think the reviews are off?
[–]Dr_Gorgenflex 3 points4 points5 points 1 year ago
How do you know if it stinks without seeing it?
[–]Subduction[S] 8 points9 points10 points 1 year ago
The same way I know not to eat poop -- the fumes are more than enough.
What I don't understand are the people who smell the same thing I do but say, "I'd really like to eat that!"
[–]Peter333 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago
For the same reason I see all terrible movies... To appreciate the incredible ones.
Ugh...my mom said something along the lines of "That movie looks good; it's got a lot of famous actors in it." I was...I don't know. I was appalled. WTF mom, I thought only crazy people went to see those stupid fucking christmas movies
[–]tttt0tttt 8 points9 points10 points 1 year ago
The first two were very funny, especially the second. I watched it with my wife, and the two of us have never laughed so hard at a movie. Maybe the third one will be bad, but I'm willing to give it a try based on the quality of the first two movies.
[–]punxsutawney 14 points15 points16 points 1 year ago*
I respect your opinion but I couldn't disagree more. I really love Meet the Parents and thought Meet the Fockers was abysmal and retained none of the humor from the original (although I did enjoy both Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand (go figure)). I am assuming that Little Fockers will be like Meet the Fockers but worse.
[–]kihadat 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago
I really liked meet the fockers. It wasn't the comedic masterpiece that the first one was, but it was solid enough for me to want to see this new one.
[–]XSeveredX 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago
My parents wanted to. I don't understand their magnetic attraction to crappy movies. It's a miracle.
[–]im_already_naked 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago

[–]ghostchamber 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago*
Wait, did you see it?
Because this stinks of holier-than-thou elitist bullshit. If you don't like it, don't fucking see it. Just don't bitch that other people do.
Asshole.
I'll go watch it just to piss you off. Worth the $10 now.
[–]timin 15 points16 points17 points 1 year ago
Wow... You'd really be sticking it to him then, huh?

Post a picture of your ticket stub.
I thought of the same thing only I decided to just buy a ticket and watch something cool.
[–]Statty 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago
Ok I saw it but I was drunk, and with two other drunk guys and we were drinking in the theater...it was the only thing playing and it was their idea
[–]eyehate 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago
Correct, OP, there is no excuse for that movie.
Or True Grit. Who wants to see a goddamned cowboy movie? I think we have moved on already.
And Black Swan. Please. A fucking ballerina movie. Yeah. No thanks.
And the Narnia bullshit. Yeah. Not so much. Keep your Jesus out of my fantasy stories.
And Due date. Fucking road movies are played out.
And The Fighter. Have we not been subjected to enough boxing movies already?!?
And Gulliver's Travels - you just know that it will only be about Lilliputs and Brobdingnagians. They never actually look at the fun parts of the book where Gulliver slaughters humans and wears their flesh to impress horses, of all things.
And Tron. Jesus. Do we really need another CGI eyefuckfest?
All of these movies are questionable. As are many that have received cult and Academy status. But, the funny thing is - most of the movies I don't like, I know are quite enjoyable to others. It is wonderful having a selection to choose from and the option of never sitting through a film I don't like. Get up and walk the hell out if you don't like a movie. Don't go in the first place if you know you won't like it.
But why bitch about it?
If it makes somebody happy - good for them and that movie. Why besmirch and gut punch somebody because they want to see something you don't?
Dildo.
[–]notic4lyf 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago
Yeah, you're a fucking idiot. This is coming from someone who watched True Grit on opening day instead of Little Fockers. I don't judge people based on what movies they like. I do, however, judge people who judge other people based on stupid petty shit like that. Fuck you and your opinions.
[–]sailingthestyx 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago
low humor defined: Ben Stiller
[–]thefullhalf -1 points0 points1 point 1 year ago
I don't see a problem. These movies exist to make money and that is pretty much it. It isn't suppose to be art, It is straight forward mindless comedy that the majority of people like to watch and not have to think about.
[–]Subduction[S] 23 points24 points25 points 1 year ago
Isn't comedy traditionally funny?
[–][deleted] 1 year ago

Isn't funny traditionally a subjective experience?
There will always be shitty movies...and shitty music, paintings, food, cars, computer games and so on. Why the fuck get angry about them? If you don't work in a movie theatre or are a movie critic you don't have to watch them. Edit: Typo
Did you write hallways instead of always intentionally? Because I make weird typos like that all the time.
